How this Fourth Wing dragon quiz works

Each of the 12 questions drops you into a short, original scene — a narrow ledge in a gale, a squadmate who cheats on a test, a door you were told never to open — and asks which of four reactions comes closest to yours. Every answer adds points to one or two of six traits: courage, cunning, loyalty, temper, discipline and independence.

When you finish, your six trait scores, from 0 to 100, are compared with a written profile for each dragon colour. The closest profile is the dragon that would bond with you, and the next one is your runner-up, with a match percentage for both. We tested the scoring on many thousands of random answer sets so that no single colour is handed out far more often than the others.

Which dragon would bond with you?

The six colours below are described in our own words, for this quiz only — not canon. Red is the fearless one: it bonds with people who run toward the fire and say what everyone else is thinking. Green is the strategist: patient, observant and rarely surprised. Brown is the anchor: loyal, steady and the last to leave a friend behind.

Orange is the wild card: independent, restless and at its best off the map. Blue is the disciplined one: precise, calm under pressure and happiest when a hard move finally comes out clean. Black is the rarest blend: bold and calculating at once, comfortable standing alone and not inclined to ask permission.

Your colour is not a grade. Readers tend to want the most dramatic dragon, but each profile describes a different kind of strength, and your runner-up often explains the side of you the top colour misses.

Your tail type

Alongside the colour you get a tail, set by two quieter measures most answers nudge: force (raw power or precision) and guard (protecting others or striking first). A strong lean toward power gives a morningstar tail, precision a scorpion tail, protecting others a club tail and striking first a dagger tail. Stay near the middle on both and you get the balanced sword tail. Together, colour and tail give 30 possible results.

No spoilers — safe at any point in the series

The quiz borrows only the basic premise of Rebecca Yarros' Empyrean books: dragons choose the riders they bond with. There are no characters, named dragons, plot points or quotes, so you can take it before chapter one, halfway through Fourth Wing or after the latest sequel.
