How this test works

Traitprint makes free, private quizzes that turn your answers into a shareable fingerprint. Its 12 Axes test is an independent political values quiz for entertainment and self-reflection. It is not affiliated with any party, campaign or the original 12axes project, and it never stores your answers.

The statements

All 72 statements were written for this site. Each of the 12 axes has six: three where agreeing moves you toward one pole and three where agreeing moves you toward the other. The quick test uses the first statement in each direction (24 in total). Questions are interleaved so you rarely see the same topic twice in a row.

Scoring

Answers count as +2 (strongly agree), +1, 0, −1 and −2 (strongly disagree) toward the statement's pole. For each axis we add these up and divide by the maximum possible, giving a percentage from 0 to 100 toward the first-named pole. We call a score balanced within 10 points of 50%, leaning up to 25 points away, strong up to 40, and committed beyond that.

Ideology and thinker matches

We wrote 12-axis profiles for 31 ideologies and 19 historical thinkers (people from history only — no living politicians). Match = 100 minus the root-mean-square distance between your 12 scores and the profile. Profiles are simplified: real movements differ across countries and decades, and thinkers never took this test. The two-axis compass on your result averages Ownership and Markets (economic) and Rule and Liberty (social).

Neutrality

We avoid loaded words, give each pole a neutral name and a fair description, and treat no position as the "right answer". If a statement feels slanted, tell us and we'll rewrite it.

Credits

The multi-axis format follows a tradition of open-source quizzes — 8values, 9axes and 12axes — released under the MIT licence. Our test shares the idea of scoring many independent axes; its statements, descriptions, ideology profiles, scoring and design are original.

Privacy

Scoring happens in your browser. Your result is encoded in its link as 12 numbers. See the privacy page.
