Purity Test (Clean Edition)

The Traitprint Purity Test is a clean, 100-item checklist of everyday life experiences. Your score starts at 100 and drops by one for every box you tick, so a lower number means you have done more. It is teen-friendly, designed for ages 13+, with nothing explicit, and it takes about five minutes to finish.

How it works

Every item starts with an invisible "Have you ever…" and ends with something most people will recognize: pulling an all-nighter, eating cereal for dinner, sending a text to the wrong person, getting lost in a city you didn't know. Read each one and tick the box if it's true for you. There is no time limit and no trick wording. If you aren't sure whether something counts, go with your gut, because nobody is checking.

When you are done, we subtract the number of ticked boxes from 100. Tick 12 boxes and your score is 88. Tick 61 and your score is 39. The items are spread across ten areas of life (school, friends, family, online, food, travel, money, harmless mischief, innocent romance, and life milestones), and they run roughly from mild at the top to a little bolder at the bottom, so the second half of the list tends to separate the cautious from the adventurous.

Why a clean version

Classic purity tests floating around the internet are written for college students, and many of their questions are not something you would want a younger sibling, a parent, or a teacher to read over your shoulder. We wanted a version that keeps the fun of comparing notes with friends without any of that. There is no adult content here, nothing explicit, and nothing that asks about illegal activity.

That makes it safe to share in a family group chat, play at a sleepover, use as an icebreaker in a club or classroom, or post your score on social media without a second thought. The "mischief" items are things like pranking a friend or sneaking candy into a movie theater, and the "romance" items stop at crushes, first dates, holding hands, and the occasional heartbreak by text. If your grandma would laugh at it, it made the list.

Where purity tests come from

Purity tests have been around for decades. The best-known one began as a university orientation tradition at Rice University, where incoming students used a checklist to break the ice and get to know each other. Over time, versions spread from campus to campus and eventually across the web, where they became a kind of shared ritual: take the test, compare numbers, laugh about the stories behind the boxes.

Traitprint is not affiliated with Rice University, and this is not the Rice Purity Test. It's an independent, original checklist written from scratch for a broader, younger audience. We borrowed the format, a simple list of experiences and a score that counts down from 100, and wrote every item ourselves.

How to read your score

A high score means you've ticked fewer boxes. That might mean you're younger, more careful, or just haven't had the chance yet. A low score means you've packed a lot of experiences into your life so far, including a few you probably laugh about now. Neither end is better. A 95 and a 35 are simply two different stories.

If you want to know what your exact number suggests, our purity test score meaning page breaks the range into fun bands, from "Fresh Out of the Box" up near 100 to "Been There, Done That" down near zero, and explains how to compare scores with friends without anyone feeling judged. It also covers why the same person can score very differently at 14 and at 24.

Sharing & privacy

Your answers stay on your device. The checklist runs in your browser, and we don't store which boxes you ticked or attach them to your name. When you share, you share only the final number and the band it falls in, never the individual items, so your friends see "I got a 72" and not the details of that time you hid a bad grade from your parents.

If you're playing with a group, a fun approach is to have everyone take the test on their own phone, then reveal scores at the same time. You can then go around and each share one box you ticked that nobody would guess. It's a surprisingly good way to learn new things about people you thought you knew well.

FAQ

Is this the Rice Purity Test?

No. This is an independent, clean alternative written by Traitprint. We are not affiliated with Rice University, and none of our items are copied from the original. We kept the familiar format, a checklist that counts down from 100, but every question is original and teen-safe, with nothing explicit or adult on the list.

What's a good score?

There's no good or bad score. A high number means you've ticked fewer boxes, and a low number means you've ticked more. Both are completely normal and depend mostly on your age, where you grew up, and how much chance you've had to try new things. The fun is in comparing with friends, not in hitting a target.

Is it appropriate for teens?

Yes. The test is designed for ages 13+. Every item is something you could read aloud at a family dinner: school, friendships, food, travel, money, harmless pranks, crushes, and milestones like getting your first phone or passing your driving test. There is no adult content, nothing explicit, and nothing about illegal activity.

How long does it take?

Most people finish in about five minutes. There are 100 short items, and you only need to tick the ones that apply. You can go faster if you skim, but reading each one tends to bring back memories, which is half the fun. There's no timer, so take as long as you like.

Do you save my answers?

No. The checklist runs in your browser, and your ticked boxes stay on your device. We don't attach answers to an account or your name. If you share your result, only the final score and its band are included, so nobody can see which specific items you checked unless you choose to tell them.

Why did my score change when I took it again?

Life happens! If you took it a year ago, you've probably done new things since. You might also read an item differently the second time, or remember something you forgot. Retaking it now and then is a fun way to see how much you've grown, tried, and survived since the last time.

Is there a version about AI?

Yes. Our AI Purity Test is a 50-box checklist about how much artificial intelligence has crept into your daily life, from asking a chatbot to write an email to saying "thank you" to it. It uses the same scoring idea, and it's just as clean and lighthearted.
