Purity Test Score Meaning: What Your Number Says
Your purity test score is 100 minus the number of boxes you ticked. A high score means you've done fewer of the listed experiences, and a low score means you've done more. It isn't a grade or a judgment of character. It's a snapshot of where you are right now, and it naturally drifts lower as you grow up.
How the score is calculated
Our clean Purity Test has 100 everyday experiences, from forgetting your locker combination to moving out on your own. Each ticked box removes one point from 100. That's it: no weighting, no hidden formula. Because the list runs from mild to bolder, two people with the same score may have ticked very different boxes, which is why talking about the stories behind the number is the fun part.
Score bands and what they mean
98–100, Fresh Out of the Box: you've barely started ticking. Maybe you're on the younger side, maybe you're cautious, or maybe life just hasn't thrown much at you yet. Enjoy it. 90–97, Wholesome Legend: you've had a few classic moments, like cereal for dinner or a sleepover where nobody slept, but you mostly play it safe.
75–89, Everyday Adventurer: you have a healthy collection of memories, a few school stories, some travel, maybe a crush or two. This is where many teens land. 50–74, Main Character Energy: you've tried a lot, made some questionable choices, and lived to tell the tale. You probably have the best stories at the lunch table.
25–49, Seasoned Veteran: road trips, missed flights, friend breakups, first jobs, and at least one prank that got out of hand. You've packed a lot in. 0–24, Been There, Done That: there isn't much on the list you haven't done. People come to you for advice, and for stories that start with "Okay, so this one time…"
Comparing scores with friends
The best way to use your score is as a conversation starter. Reveal numbers at the same time, then take turns sharing one box you ticked that nobody would guess. You'll be surprised how often the quietest person in the group has the wildest travel story.
Keep it kind. A higher or lower number isn't something to tease anyone about, and nobody should feel pressured to share details they'd rather keep to themselves. If someone just wants to say their score and leave it there, that's completely fine.
Why your number isn't a judgment
Most of what lowers your score is simply time and opportunity. A 14-year-old hasn't had the chance to pass a driving test or move out, so their score will naturally sit higher than a 24-year-old's. Where you live, how much your family travels, and what your school is like all play a part too.
Our test is clean and designed for ages 13+, so nothing on it is shameful. Ticking "failed a class" or "been dumped by text" just means you've had real experiences, and most people grow from exactly those moments.
About this test
Purity tests started as a university orientation tradition, and the format has been copied and remixed countless times since. Ours is an independent, original version written for a broader audience, with no adult content and nothing explicit. Not affiliated with Rice University. If you want to see how much AI has crept into your life instead, try our AI Purity Test, which uses the same count-down idea with 50 tech-themed boxes.

FAQ
What is a normal purity test score?
There isn't one normal score. It depends heavily on age, where you live, and what opportunities you've had. Younger teens usually score higher simply because they haven't had time to tick as many boxes. Comparing yourself with friends your own age is more meaningful than comparing with anyone else.
Is a higher score better?
No. A higher score just means fewer ticked boxes. It doesn't make you a better or worse person. Some people score high because they're careful, others because they're young, and others because life hasn't handed them many surprises yet. Every score comes with its own story.
Can my score go back up?
Not really, since you can't un-live an experience. Your score only moves down over time as you do new things. That's part of the fun of retaking it every year or two: you get a little record of how much your life has changed in between.
Is this the same as the Rice Purity Test score?
No. Our test is an independent, clean alternative with different, original items, so scores aren't directly comparable. Traitprint is not affiliated with Rice University. Our version is designed for ages 13+ and contains nothing explicit, which makes it easy to share with family and classmates.
What does my AI Purity Test score mean?
The AI version works the same way, but with 50 boxes worth two points each. A score of 100 means AI-free, and lower scores mean AI plays a bigger role in your school, work, creativity, and daily life. Like the main test, it's a fun snapshot, not a verdict.
